Leeds allowed for a number of young players to leave the club during the 23/24 season, given that their chances of playing first team football at Elland Road are slim to none.

Some still hold long-term prospects at the club, but others with their contracts expiring soon are no closer to getting into Daniel Farke’s senior setup.

The club confirmed on Monday afternoon that U21s midfielder Charlie Allen is the latest to head out on loan this term.

He has made the short move to York City on a short-term deal, playing his first senior football since leaving Linfield for West Yorkshire in 2020.

Allen will be playing in the National League for York, where they sit 18th in the table and aiming to stabilise in the fifth tier.

Allen out of contract in the summer

It was noted by the YEP’s Joe Donnohue that Allen’s contract is still set to expire in the summer, with Allen now having a great opportunity to impress in the senior environment.

He joined Leeds from Northern Irish outfit Linfield in August 2020, penning his first professional contract on a three-year deal with an option of a further year, which runs until this summer.

Cody Drameh and Lewis Bate also moved out on loan for this season with their current contracts due to expire in the summer.
