Sevilla are praying that Leicester City will help ‘facilitate’ a summer deal for midfielder Boubakary Soumare, now that he’s established himself as a key player under Quique Sanchez Flores.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish side can’t afford the €14m purchase clause they agreed with Leicester and so will need to renegotiate.
The newspaper explains that after failing to impress previous manager Diego Alonso, Soumare has bounced back for Sevilla under Sanchez Flores.
He’s very much a key player for the team at this moment in time, starring as either the defensive midfielder or as a box-to-box midfielder.
Everyone at the club is very happy with the decision to sign him on loan from Leicester in the summer, a deal done in part because Soumare made it clear he wanted the move and Enzo Maresca, a former Sevilla player, endorsed him highly.
The loan deal concludes on June 30th and includes a €14m option to make it permanent. That’s too much for Sevilla, whose finances are tight and won’t include income from Europe next season either.
Thus, a new negotiation will be needed, and Sevilla are hoping that Leicester City will ‘facilitate the operation’ so a deal can be done that suits everyone.
The hope is that the Foxes don’t want a player who made it clear he wouldn’t play for them in the Championship and will therefore open up talks to make the permanent exit happen.
That’s something which would please Sanchez Flores, who wants the player as part of his squad next season after making him a key player in this.
