Leeds United manager Daniel FarkePhil Hay has shared his understanding of the Profit and Sustainability situation at Leeds United amid the news of Leicester City’s financial troubles.

It emerged, as per The Athletic, that the Foxes could still be facing charges for PSR breaches if it is found they broke the Premier League’s £105million threshold for losses over a three-year period.

This has sparked worries at Elland Road, having also been relegated from the top-flight last season with a whole host of high-quality players, some of whom left on loan at the beginning of the season.

Speaking via The Square Ball podcast on Friday (8 March), Hay said: “My understanding is, without the oversights of the accounts or calculations, is that Leeds have always been compliant with PSR.

“I don’t think by a massive margin, but from what I was told, expediting the Sinisterra deal to Bournemouth was in no small way to get money in to stay the right side of that line.

“We have been told all along that we have been [on the right side]. But it is no secret that if Leeds don’t go up this season, they will have to cut the cloth and balance the books.”Leeds United manager Daniel Farke

Will Leeds United face any similar punishments to Leicester City?

It seems that any risk of breaching PSR rules depends on whether the Whites can claim promotion back to the Premier League this campaign, which is a very real possibility.

Just five points behind the league leaders Leicester, Farke has done an immaculate job with the turnaround at Leeds, transforming the relegated squad into a title-chasing monster.

Of course, the manager’s previous experiences with Norwich City in the division have helped massively and could be one of the main reasons that Leeds do pip either Leicester or Ipswich Town to the automatic spots.

The Whites will need to claim all three points against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday 8 March, with the Foxes and the Tractor Boys taking on Hull City and Cardiff City, respectively.

It would appear that Leeds are compliant when it comes to PSR, which will only anger fans about Leicester’s season so far given the Foxes have been so dominant in the second tier for the majority of the campaign.
