The Sky Sports journalist reported via X (25 June) that the Tractor Boys are advancing with Johnson’s representatives to sign the player on a free transfer.

Johnson’s deal at the London Stadium expires at the end of the month.

The 24-year-old was offered a five-year deal but wanted to assess all his options before making a decision.

It appears as if Johnson has rejected the opportunity to remain at the London Stadium.

While some supporters might be surprised that the player has turned down a long-term contract offer from his boyhood club, there are valid reasons for him to do so.

Johnson hardly played last season, making just 14 appearances in the Premier League.Ben Johnson and West Ham United badge

And with a new manager arriving at the club in the form of Julen Lopetegui, the right-back might feel as though he doesn’t fit into the Argentinian’s plans.

Johnson has spent his entire career with the Hammers, and he might have therefore felt as though this was the perfect time for a fresh start.
