Brighton & Hove Albion have backed new manager Fabian Hurzeler by bringing in Leeds United’s Georginio Rutter in a deal reportedly worth £40 million.
If accurate, the fee would represent a record signing for the South Coast club, who face Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
The 22-year-old striker completed his move subject to obtaining a work permit, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Hurzeler, who became the Premier League’s youngest permanent head coach in June, knows Rutter from the Frenchman’s time at Hoffenheim.Leeds United: €50m fee claim emerges for Georginio Rutter, Brighton transfer
Hurzeler told Brighton’s official website: “Georginio is a player who has the capabilities to get fans off their seats and really showed what he can do in English football with Leeds last season – but I have known about him since he played in Germany for Hoffenheim.
“Now we have to integrate him into the team. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
