According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Newcastle United is actively interested in signing Bournemouth center-back Lloyd Kelly before the January transfer window opens.

Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in the 24-year-old, according to a report from Football Insider on September 9.

Kelly will only have six months left on his contract in January, therefore Bournemouth may be obliged to sell him at that time.

The defender can start negotiating a pre-contract with international clubs on January 1, but three of the top teams in the Premier League are prepared to guarantee that the Cherries get paid for the talented left-sided player.

As a result of manager Eddie Howe’s strong admiration for the center-back, Newcastle are prepared to join Tottenham and Liverpool in the competition for Kelly’s services.

The former England Under-21 player was signed by Howe in 2019, but a ligament injury limited his playing time for the then-Newcastle manager to nine times.

Although Newcastle is in need of a center-back, the Magpies boss is a fan of the player’s attitude and abilities and is prepared to bring him to St. James’ Park.

On Friday, September 8, Football Insider reported that Newcastle had a last-minute offer for Crystal Palace player Joachim Andersen before the deadline on September 1 denied.

Kelly has played 149 minutes for Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth team thus far this season, including two starts.
