BIG SIGN: The Blue Jays make a proposal for a massive advertising board outside the stadium.

The Blue Jays didn’t land global superstar Shohei Ohtani this off-season. Or Japanese pitching ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. And 2019 National League MVP Cody Bellinger probably won’t be en route either.

Those into baseball and building permits will be pumped to know that, according to the City of Toronto’s building permit database, the Blue Jays have applied to install a massive electronic sign outside their renovated stadium on the south side of Bremner Blvd. at Rees St.

The new mega-sign would likely replace an existing sign in the area.

Renderings show a sign with a dark shade of blue and a light blue accent, a colour scheme that has been prominent throughout the Rogers Centre renovation.

The proposed sign is about 120 feet from the base to its highest point and the rectangular portion of the sign is 39 feet tall by 12 feet wide.

“The applicant has proposed to erect and display one illuminated electronic ground sign, displaying electronic static copy, located at the south of Rogers Centre within the area bound by Bremner Blvd. to the north,” the sign proposal says. “The existing ground sign will be replaced by the proposed one.”

Phase 2 renovations are ongoing at the downtown dome, including a reimagined lower bowl, as part of a $300-million makeover.

A decision about the sign is expected on Jan. 17.
