Newcastle United have completed a rival raid on Sunderland for their highly-rated goalkeeper, Claudia Moan.As revealed by NewcastleWorld last week , the Magpies have landed the player after offering a double-your-money deal to Moan. It’s an offer that was said to blow Sunderland out of the water financially.
The Magpies secured back-to-back promotions last season after winning the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title. And coach Becky Langley is looking to assemble a squad capable of making it three on the bounce, with top level and Championship experience seen as vital.
Moan, Sunderland’s No.1 last season, fits that bill. The 25-year-old’s contract came to an end and while Moan was offered new terms by Sunderland, it appears as if a bigger offer from the rising force in the North East women’s game is set to see the player pen terms on Tyneside.
In a statement confirming the move, the club said: “Newcastle United Women have completed the signing of goalkeeper and reigning Barclays Women’s Championship Player of the Season Claudia Moan from Sunderland.
