Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is confident Nottingham Forest will not have to contend with any PSR issues this coming season.

Last term, the Reds were docked four points for falling foul of the Premier League’s financial regulations. The uncertainty surrounding the situation dragged on from January, when they were charged with breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), until May, when they heard their appeal against the sanction had been unsuccessful.

The saga contributed to a challenging first few months in charge for Nuno, but he managed to steer Forest to safety and is hopeful of a smoother ride this time around. That is because he believes the club “did well” in balancing the books for last month’s accounting deadline.

June 30 was always going to be a key date in the summer, marking the end of the relevant PSR assessment period. Asked about its importance in avoiding another points deduction, Nuno told the Reds’ YouTube channel after Saturday’s 3-0 friendly win over Chesterfield: “Yes, and the club did well, so we don’t have to worry about that issue no more.”

The PSR deadline created a mini transfer window of sorts as clubs looked to comply with the rules. Forest managed to avoid a scenario where they needed to consider letting any of their prized assets go for cut-price fees before the end of last month. As it was, they brought in good money with the timely sales of Orel Mangala, Moussa Niakhate and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
