It’s something we’ve gotten used to seeing over the past month as the 28-year-old has taken no-hit bids into the ninth inning twice and another into the sixth as part of a historic run in which he allowed just one hit and threw at least seven innings four times in six starts.

Wednesday night at Globe Life Field in Texas, Francis was on the hill and a team was hitless into the fifth inning, but this time it was the Blue Jays, stymied by Cody Bradford in a 2-0 loss to the Rangers.

Bradford, a soft-tossing left-hander, retired the first 12 hitters he faced before Alejandro Kirk’s ground ball went off his ankle and into shallow right field for a base hit to start the fifth. Spencer Horwitz followed with a double, but the Jays couldn’t take advantage of what wound up being their best opportunity to score in the game.jays davis.jpg

Despite a lack of no-hit drama on his part — Francis gave up a leadoff double to former Jay Marcus Semien to lead off the bottom of the first inning — the right-hander was no slouch. He kept the home side off the scoreboard until Adolis Garcia snuck a two-run home run over the glove of a leaping Davis Schneider in the sixth inning.

Garcia did the job on defence as well, stealing extra bases from Leo Jimenez with a terrific leaping catch against the right-field wall to begin the third.

Schneider went 0-for-4, ending his home run streak at three games, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did likewise, going hitless for just the fourth time in the month of September.

Bo Bichette, who returned Tuesday after almost two months on the injured list with a calf strain with a pair of singles in the Jays’ 13-8 loss, was a late scratch with what the Jays called a right middle finger contusion. He was seen in the dugout early in the game with the finger in a splint.
