Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has insisted that Anthony Gordon remains fully committed to the Magpies amid links with Liverpool. But speculation over Howe’s own future at St James’ Park will make it harder to believe him.
Gordon has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer with Newcastle said to have been open to selling some of their star players to keep in line with the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The June 30 PSR deadline for Premier League clubs has since passed but that has not stopped some of the speculation around Gordon’s future.
The former Everton forward is a boyhood Liverpool fan and had a short stint at the Reds’ academy before turning professional. Magpies boss Howe though has insisted that the 23-year-old is going nowhere.
“We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative,” he told reporters. “He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle and I want to make that clear to all our supporters.
