Things haven’t quite reached the ‘musical chairs’ level yet, but as expected (and as is the case every offseason), the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy moving pieces on the roster and adding a couple of others. What’s that? … No… We regret to inform you that Justin Simmons hasn’t been signed yet.
A handful of guys have shuffled in and out of the lineup during training camp due to injury, particularly aling the offensive line. Brett Toth and Landon Dickerson both watched from the sideline early. Lane Johnson and Trevor Keegan both sat out for a period but returned. Keegan even had his shoulder wrapped at one point.
Maybe it was another brief absence by Landon Dickerson that sent Howie Roseman to the phone. At this time of year, every NFL squad needs a few training camp bodies, and on the final Tuesday of a swift 31 days in July, the Birds added another interior offensive lineman.
The Eagles add veteran Nick Gates to the training camp nest.
The news came down at about 3:30 pm EST following the Eagles’ first practice in full pads. Mike Garafolo reports the Eagles have added another offensive lineman to provide some training camp depth. This one is veteran NIck Gates.
Here are a few things you may or may not know about him.
1. He comes to Philly having played with TWO rivals.
Signed as an undrafted free agent by the rival New York Giants in 2018, Gates spent five seasons there (2018). He spent the most recent campaign with the Washington Commanders. Though it appears he may be on a quest to play for every NFC East team, it’s doubtful he’ll find a permanent home here with the Eagles.
You never know though. We have been wrong anmd have missed the mark before.
2. His high school alma mater is the same as the daughter of an Eagles legend.
Before Randall Cunningham’s beautiful baby girl was a three-time Olympian, she navigated the waves of high school. Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada was her stomping ground.
