Lucas Pires playing for SantosBurnley laid down a marker during their opening game of the Championship season, with a 4-1 thumping over promotion rivals, Luton Town.

Albeit the first game of the season, attention will be turning to the Clarets after their impressive opening day victory at Kenilworth Road.

In what was new manager Scott Parker’s first game in charge, Burnley ran out deserved winners and put in a performance that will send shivers through the rest of the division.

One of the headlines from the Clarets’ victory was the performance of new signing Lucas Pires. The Brazilian provided two assists for Parker’s men and could have had a goal himself.

Although it is early days, it appears that Burnley may have hit the jackpot in signing the Brazilian.

Many would have had Burnley’s opener at Kenilworth Road down as a close game, given the clubs suffered relegation together from the Premier League. With Parker at the helm, it was going to be a tough game to call.

Along with Parker, there have been a host of arrivals at Turf Moor, with no less than eight players arrving through the door. Two of those players made their debuts against Luton, with Maxime Esteve and Pires both being given first team opportunities.

Pires played in his favoured left-back position for the Clarets, and showed his potential at both ends of the field. The 23-year-old contributed two assists and could have had a goal himself if it was not for the woodwork.

As far as debuts go, they do not get much better, and the left-back came in for heaps of praise from his new boss.

Burnley fans will be hoping that the Brazilian can add to his fine performances when the club face Cardiff City at Turf Moor this Saturday.

Pires has a high ceiling and potential re-sale value

As per The Athletic, Burnley signed Pires for a fee €2.5 million from Brazilian side, Santos. The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Spanish side, Cadiz, and moved to Turf Moor to replace Charlie Taylor, who signed for Southampton.

At €2.5 million, the deal to bring Pires to Burnley seems like a relatively low risk transfer. At 23, the Brazilian has his best years ahead of him and if he carries on his promising performances, then his stock will only rise.Lucas Pires playing for Santos

Despite his young years, the defender already has a wealth of experience under his belt. Pires started his career at Brazilian side, Santos, where he made 69 appearances for the club, contributing five assists.
