Leeds United remain interested in Sheffield United man Gus Hamer as they make a late swoop for the midfielder, as per The Star.
Leeds United are hoping to add the finishing touches to their squad in order for them to compete for automatic promotion this season.
Sheffield United will have their sights set on a similar target this season following their relegation last time out. The Blades have had a bit of a sticky summer window overall, but do seem to be on the right path now.
Reports earlier this week suggested Leeds United had offered Joel Piroe to the Blades as part of a deal that would see Hamer go the other way.
Then, an update from the Yorkshire Evening Post claimed that not to be true. However, The Star stand by it and now say Leeds United are still pushing hard to get a deal for Hamer over the line before tonight’s deadline.
Sheffield United were said to be targeting a move for Celtic midfielder Mikey Johnston if Hamer was to depart. However, given the lateness of this deal now it remains to be seen whether the Blades would still have the option of going for Johnston in the closing hours.
Hamer, 27, has scored twice and assisted once so far in three Championship outings. He played 36 games for the Blades in the Premier League last season, scoring four and assisting six and he has already proven himself over the years as a very strong second tier player.
His time at Coventry City saw him register 123 second tier appearances, scoring 17 and assisting 24 from the middle of the park.
