Leeds United cruised to a 2-0 win over Hull City in the second half despite conceding a couple of first-half chances, securing an important victory going into the September international break.
Not the most-accomplished of performances but one that last season, might have got away from Leeds given the amount of times Leeds failed to get the job done against weaker sides in the Championship.
Goals from Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe secured the win in the second half, with Manor Solomon laying on Leeds’ first with a moment of magic before a gorgeous Junior Firpo ball found Piroe in acres of space.
A big win for Leeds that sees Daniel Farke’s side sit fourth in the Championship table, unbeaten. But, one Leeds player did leave the Elland Road pitch a little “disappointed” and that was attacker Wilfried Gnonto.
Gnonto impresses for Leeds again but with little to show for it
The Italian’s new deal was announced on Saturday morning following the closure of the transfer window. He has taken on that big-player mantle in attack after Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter left.
Another impressive display but he comes out of the game with no goals or assists. A solid performance from Leeds’ Italy star, and perhaps a good sign that he was disappointed to be subbed off by boss Farke.
With 74 minutes gone, Largie Ramazani replaced him. The YEP say he was “disappointed” by Farke’s decision to take him off, but Brenden Aaronson was on hand to whisper some encouragement in his ear.
What Stuart Dallas said about Gnonto on Instagram after deal
Gnonto’s new deal came as a great bit of news following an underwhelming transfer window, and indeed deadline day. Leeds got what they needed to do done, but many felt the need for a no.10 was there.
