Everton still want to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo with his agent at work to find a solution for his exit, according to Tutto Sport.

The news outlet reported on 15 July that the Toffees are first in the race to take an interest in the Brazilian, alongside Newcastle and Wolves.

A potential deal could cost Sean Dyche and the club £12.6million, with the right solution wanted.

Everton step up to seal Arthur transfer at Goodison Park

Although the former Liverpool loanee has been linked with a return to Merseyside since the start of the summer window [MailOnline, 28 May], it feels as if the Toffees’ pursuit of the 27-year-old has been stepped up over the last couple of days.

This is likely not a coincidence, with Everton agreeing to a £50million deal with Aston Villa for the transfer of Amadou Onana [Matt Maher, 13 July].

Onana was a solid first-team regular at Goodison Park last term but for a fee in that region, he can be easily replaced.

Should a move transpire for Arthur, it would cost around a quarter of the sale of Onana which would allow Everton to strengthen their team across the board.

All in all, it feels as if both the Onana and Arthur deals make sense for all involved parties, especially since Juventus have just welcomed Douglas Luiz from the Villans.
